It must be really frustrating when people that you loath and despise insist on treating you with respect- "Yes ma'am. No ma'an." When you are so filled with seething hatred that you can't contain it anymore, the lack of an opening to display your bile ceases to be a problem. Hence the condescending, hateful remarks of Barbara Boxer directed at a general testifying in the Senate:

But of course, like all liberals, she supports the troops! (cough, cough)
BTW,
According to the U.S. Army’s own guide to protocol, Members of the U.S. Senate should be verbally addressed as “Sir,” “Ma’am” or “Senator.” So, General Walsh was simply following longstanding tradition. (Big Hollywood)
