MORE GOOD NEWS

From the amazingly wonderful People's Cube. If you havent checked this site, do so- it's chock full of yuks! But this posting from today is in all seriousness:
The good news for all of us after such a crushing defeat is that now is exactly the time to remember why it is that we are conservatives, and to hold true to our fundamental beliefs. It will not be an easy time to be a conservative in America over the next four years. There is a mood for socialism, but in America it is the voters in the middle ground that decide elections. This time they swung to the left, but the centre can always be gently nudged to the right using persuasive arguments founded on logical values that any decent hard working person will relate to and embrace (aka conservatism), as long as these arguments are prosecuted with a genuine conviction regarding conservatism's benefits.
~
Remember, the Left loves symbolism and grand but ultimately empty promises. Why? Because deep down they know their values and policies are based on unworkable and illogical utopian ideals, as opposed to Conservative philosophy which is grounded in how the world really works. The Left panders to that part of the electorate which "hopes" life will be easier under a changeling President. What some know and hide and others are ignorant to, is that change for a socialist is a socially engineered, high taxing paternalistic State, with a full time nanny tending to the "unenlightened" plebs.

Conservatives represent the interests of people who relate to policies that are based on individualism, small government, lower taxes, and less intervention in people’s lives, in other words a genuinely level playing field. The left's policies are based on a philosophy that the State knows best and people cannot be trusted to make their own choices. By contrast, Conservatives are of the view that people can and should make their own choices, but that this also gives the individual the right of personal responsibility, and accepting the consequences of your choices, without expecting the State to bail you out.

The risk (and rewards!!) of personal freedom and responsibility far outweigh the perceived comfort but ultimately the debilitating malaise of waiting fruitlessly for the State to send a shiver up your leg. This belief in the individual as the best determinant of personal fulfilment and happiness should be the foundation against which all policies on the Conservative side of politics are framed and argued for. This needs to be faithfully embraced to truly differentiate the Conservative brand from the counterfeit approach of Obama, so that people will be jolted out of their Camelot No.2 comfort zone. Socialists are very good at using emotional blackmail to force acceptance of their policies. Conservatives, now more than ever, need to be dedicated in prosecuting arguments using the simple and straightforward fundamentals of our ideas, in order to truly defend individualism and free choice, which is actually about the defence of the best constitution and country in the world.
