I would trust a plumber any day over someone with a masters in English. The Plumber will at least be living in the real world and will most likely will have some sense. The English MA will be living in a deconstructed socialist fantasy land up in some ivory tower in the clouds where they mostly spend their time intellectually groping themselves!
