Not enough that he treated 'em like crap enough to put their country in an uproar. They then had to go and give this response (from Cassy Fiano):
The real views of many in Obama administration were laid bare by a State Department official involved in planning the Brown visit, who reacted with fury when questioned by The Sunday Telegraph about why the event was so low-key.
The official dismissed any notion of the special relationship, saying: “There’s nothing special about Britain. You’re just the same as the other 190 countries in the world. You shouldn’t expect special treatment.”
This was extremely, extremely stupid. Either way, the Obama administration loses. Either they’re a bunch of clueless, incompetent idiots who get overwhelmed by even the slightest responsibilities, or they’re a bunch of stuck-up, narcissistic pricks who look at our closest ally as insignificant. It doesn’t look good either way, although I’d wager the truth is that his administration is probably some pathetic mash-up of the two.
I thought Obama was bragging about how smart his diplomacy was going to be. Is this his brand of “smart” diplomacy — to insult the strongest ally we have? Rather than show graciousness and simply apologize, which may well have made this entire issue become quickly forgotten, they had to act like adolescents utterly unwilling to ever admit that they were wrong. Instead, it’s excuse after excuse after excuse.
