Its holding living in contradiction as if contradiction did not exist.
From a former Soviet at Pajamas Media, here are a few:
Economic justice:
- America is capitalist and greedy - yet half of the population is subsidized.
- Half of the population is subsidized - yet they think they are victims.
- They think they are victims - yet their representatives run the government.
- Their representatives run the government - yet the poor keep getting poorer.
- The poor keep getting poorer - yet they have things that people in other countries only dream about.
- They have things that people in other countries only dream about - yet they want America to be more like those other countries.
People's power:
- Liberals believe they're advancing people's power - yet they don't believe people can do anything right without their guidance.
- People can't do anything right - yet the government bureaucracy can do everything.
- The government bureaucracy can do everything - yet liberals don't like it when the government takes control of their lives.
- Liberals don't like it when the government takes control of their lives - yet they vote for programs that increase people's dependency on the government.
- They vote for programs that increase people's dependency on the government - yet they believe they're advancing people's power.
Fortunately, there's now a 12-step program!
And the power of cognitive dissonance explains why people still smile at their soon-to-be master while he destroys our country:
Never underestimate the power of cognitive dissonance,... People tend to internally defend their assumptions and actions against facts and perceptions that challenge them. For an Obama voter to turn on him now would be an acknowledgment of a failure in judgment, and that is especially threatening for most people. It would also mean there is no knowledgeable hand at the tiller of the ship of state, another thought so frightening that most people will postpone it as long as possible.
When conservatives criticize Obama by calling him a socialist, they are puzzled that most Americans don’t yet see what they perceive so clearly. But most Americans have learned to tune out such statements, seeing them as attacks borne of paranoia and akin to the dreaded McCarthyism. In addition, warnings from Republicans that Obama’s budget will cause unprecedented deficits and hurt all of us by further depressing the economy can be dismissed by Obama supporters as self-serving partisanship.
