So President Jugears is gonna spend us out of recession with public works projects and a huge increase in the size of government? How did this work out for us before?
According to a recent UCLA study:
Outa the frying pan, into the fire. And it's hardly that UCLA is a bastion of the right. These people were surprised by what they found. Two UCLA economists say they have figured out why the Great Depression dragged on for almost 15 years, and they blame a suspect previously thought to be beyond reproach: President Franklin D. Roosevelt.
After scrutinizing Roosevelt's record for four years, Harold L. Cole and Lee E. Ohanian conclude in a new study that New Deal policies signed into law 71 years ago thwarted economic recovery for seven long years.
"Why the Great Depression lasted so long has always been a great mystery, and because we never really knew the reason, we have always worried whether we would have another 10- to 15-year economic slump," said Ohanian, vice chair of UCLA's Department of Economics. "We found that a relapse isn't likely unless lawmakers gum up a recovery with ill-conceived stimulus policies."
But I guess we have to accept that people have voted to institute their ownership by the government. Personal responsibility has become just too much of a burden to bear anymore. Freedom takes too much...uh...work. Better to be a slave to the government. As long as we can still watch American Idol, who the hell cares, right? Obama is Santa on a unicorn, galloping about giving us all stuff. Weeeeee!
The scary thing is, once the beast is created, it is very difficult for people who believe in their country's founding principles to dismantle it. The paci-sucking slaves will revolt and too many will be on the teat. Lets hope some residual spark of America still lives within enough of our population to rekindle the fire of freedom someday.
