How do you think being dismissed as irrelevant and blown off by a president that left town to have an astroturf rally with a tiny fringe group will set with all of these people?

the three takeaways I had from the event comport with Welch's from yesterday's post: First, the crowd was truly huge. Second, the crowd was from all over the place (both geographically and ideologically). And third, the crowd, well-behaved and stunningly normal in the main, was genuinely pissed off at out of control spending and government policies. "Stop spending," was the basic answer to any questions about what Congress and the president should do come tomorrow. Throw the bums of either party out come next fall was the second most-common answer.

Everything Nick writes completely jibes with my experience. I've been covering marches in D.C. for nearly a decade and I will eat my hat if the march wasn't well into six figures. Secondly, if you see a few crazy signs at the march on some left-wing blog and decide that it was a bunch of kooks on the mall, you're dead wrong. (I'm looking at you, Rod Dreher.) I covered the March for over five hours, walking from Freedom Plaza to the front of the Capitol, back down to the reflecting pool and from one side of the mall to the other. During that time I saw only two birther signs, and yes, a few swastikas — but, ahem, those were also exceedingly rare. I spoke to dozens of people, and yes, they were all "stunningly normal." Bottom line: If elected officials — GOP included — want to ignore what's going on here on the basis that it's a bunch of fringe crazies, they do so at their own peril.

One of Barack Obama's first big "community organizer" jobs involved ACORN in 1992. Obama also trained ACORN employees. He represented ACORN in court. Obama worked with and protested with ACORN. His campaign donated $800,000 to ACORN this year for voter registration efforts.

IT'S NO LONGER POLITICS. IT'S A MENTAL HEALTH ISSUE:

...Psychological denial and the avoidance of an unpleasant reality are certainly not confined to one side of the political spectrum or the other. But what I find endlessly fascinating is how the political left has created and fully integrated into their mainstream thinking, specific ideological tools that facilitate ongoing psychological denial and completely break with reality.

It reminds me of all the paranoid patients I have observed over the years, who effortlessly are able to dismiss or explain away those facts that don't fit in with their carefully constructed conspiracy theories. If you get too assertive in pointing out those uncomfortable facts, you find yourself in no time fully integrated into the theory. For the paranoid, the case is closed and the argument is finished.

The political left has been utilizing the same psychological strategies inherent in the paranoid style since the end of the cold war and the 20th century. The rise of politically correct speech and the dogma of multiculturalism; the insistence on cultural diversity while enforcing a profound homogeneity of ideas and lack of intellectual diversity in academia; as well as the distortions and rationalizations that are currently the hallmark of intellectual debate within our institutions of higher learning and politics-- have all combined to dissuade those on the political left from pursuing a course of intellectual honesty and/or emotional insight.

This is what makes it so frustrating to debate or argue with today's typical postmodern leftist. Some are willing to engage in discussion, but you can always count on their complete dismissal of any fact that does not conform to their ideological perspective. No matter how many times you debunk their position (e.g., no matter how many times evidence of Saddam's WMD's are found and documented; that evidence has been either ignored or poo-pooed using a variety of rationalizations--and the goalposts are then changed to ensure the safety of the denial).

When it suits their purposes (i.e., when they are losing the argument), they will resort to the claim that reality and truth are merely subjective constructs anyway, and that any evidence you present is only someone's "opinion" and that their opinions are as good as anyone else's.

Such a position should logically disqualify their position to begin with, but of course, it doesn't.

Take Van Jones. He is now making the ludicrous claim that he was "smeared". Since when is it a "smear" to quote a person's own words? Nothing that was said about Jones was false; nor did it come anywhere near the definition of a "smear". Yet, to the postmodern political demagogues who are currently running our country--and I refer to the Democrat, Republican, socialist and communist variants--the meaning of words is elastic and can easily be manipulated or distorted to suit their current purposes or agenda.

As I have written before, at the center of all psychological denial is a hidden agenda. That agenda is usually not completely conscious--meaning that the denier has not thought through the issues surrounding his denial; and may not even be aware of what his motivation is in asserting something is true when it isn't; or false when it isn't.

Worth reading it all. It is a lot easier to bring sanity back to our nation when you can understand the mentality of the other side. I think she is essential reading for anyone trying to make sense of what is so completely senseless.

RACIST DEMOCRATS AND ACORN

Kevin Jackson, in his excellent blog The Black Sphere, gives some context to the ACORN pimpin' madness recently revealed:

Democrats have declared themselves the de facto party of civil rights, in spite of their dismal record on race in the past. They are given a pass because Democrats are credited with establishing entitlements to deal with America’s poor and disenfranchised.

Over the years, Democrats have relied on these entitlements to maintain a continual underclass with programs like welfare, while federal agencies did the dirty work of keeping the poor trapped in the system. Fed entitlement programs became a Hotel California of sorts, where as the lyrics of the song say, “You can check in anytime you like, but you can never leave.” The poor find themselves trapped in a system that seduces, then strangles.

Like all good systems, the entitlement system set up by Democrats has evolved, with non-profit organizations being the new covert operatives. These operatives allow a shell game to be played on the American taxpayer. A shell game that keeps America’s poor and disenfranchised in virtual prisons of their own construction. ACORN is one such non-profit operative....

The concern of ACORN was laser-focused, singular in its simplicity: How to help this young criminal continue her illegal enterprise—her “pursuit of happiness”—living in a house at the initial expense of the American taxpayer. Why shouldn’t this miscreant be part of the cycle of “getting over on America” that ACORN and organizations of that ilk wish to perpetuate? That, after all is ACORN’s distortion of The American Dream.

And how would you like to live in or near an ACORN neighborhood, a neighborhood where they would place a known criminal enterprise, and help them thrive? Perhaps next ACORN will give seminars on how to build better meth labs?

But Democrats are for ridding neighborhoods of crime and for promoting education, right?

ACORN promotes education alright. They are educating America’s disenfranchised criminals to break laws and evolve their skillsets. ACORN appears to have no conscience in dealing with the real problems presented to them, preferring to sweep things under the rug in a “Don’t ask, don’t tell” policy. As the young man in this exposé suggested, ACORN was “their last resort.” Indeed it was.

Here’s the wrap:

ACORN is part of the system of “compassion” that has America’s poor voting overwhelmingly for Democrats, yet not getting any solutions to the real problems. ACORN offers America’s disenfranchised nothing but more future problems. As with our young prostitute ACORN puts a band-aid on a bullet hole, merely pushing her problems into the future, making them bigger and badder.

Though our young prostitute was an undercover girl exposing ACORN for what the organization truly represents, the truth is that people like her exist in America. ACORN is all too willing to set these people up for the harsh reality of living life on the lam. ACORN considers this justice for America. Payback to those ACORN deems worthy. “Give us your tired, your poor, your huddled masses” has been replaced with “Give us your lazy, your incorrigibles, your angry miscreants,” and we will find them housing near you.

He is so right on. How the hell I spent so many years not seeing what was right in front of my face, I will never know. Guess there's no depth to which a deluded mind can sink.

I heard Mr. Jackson interviewed in DC yesterday as well and he rocked. What does he get for his brilliant work? Racist comments right and left.

Its high time that the un-broken chain of racist oppression from the democratic party is re-vealed for what it is. What's to be afraid of? Being called racist? Like you are because you want the Constitution followed? Like you are because you are against Marxism? The left has emptied that word of all meaning now.

THE NOTHING THE ONE SPOKE OF 'BOUT OBAMACARE

“If companies don’t do right by their workers and offer them insurance…”

This comment drives me insane. Why is offering health benefits “doing right,” but not offering them “doing wrong?” Isn’t the fact that the company even hired them in the first place “doing them right?” Employees know what they’re getting when they get a job, and if they demand health coverage as part of their employment, they can go work for someone else if their boss doesn’t offer it to them. Purchasing health coverage for your employees is extraordinarily expensive; sometimes simply hiring the person is all an employee can afford.

And, by the way, offering health care to employees wasn’t always the norm. But eventually it became part of a job offer–”Instead of paying you $60,000 and you paying $10K a year for your health coverage, I’ll pay you $50,000 a year and give you health coverage, and then you won’t be taxed for that $10K.” It’s a privilege, a bonus, a cool thing…it’s not a RIGHT, and not offering it isn’t necessarily “doing wrong.”

“We will require everyone to get health insurance, just like many states force you to have auto insurance.”

Wow. He has big stones to say something like this. For one thing, the reason you’re forced to have auto insurance is to cover OTHERS, not yourself. You’re driving a big dangerous machine, and if you injure someone with it, you better have a way to guarantee payment. For another, auto insurance can be purchased across state lines, so you have true competition. Finally, and most importantly, you’re not forced to drive a car! So if you don’t own a car, you don’t have to get auto insurance! ...

“Public universities don’t hurt private colleges, so public insurance won’t hurt private insurance” (paraphrase).

Hmm. Well, that’s partly true, except the difference is that there are thousands of different public universities to choose from, which means they compete with each other, whereas President Obama’s proposing one government plan. Also, most public universities are state run and funded, not nationally run and funded. And again…NO ONE’S FORCING ANYONE TO GO TO COLLEGE, whereas President Obama wants to force you to have insurance, so again, it’s a crappy metaphor. ...

“It will be against the law for an insurance company to drop you just because you get sick.”

It already is. Let me repeat that. It already is. As long as you make timely payments, it’s against the law for an insurance company to simply drop you because you got sick.

And then there was that comment about no illegals getting coverage. Even though he said it wasn't a lie, they changed the bill to eliminate what they said wasn't there.

But trust him. His The Obamessiah, after all. Yours is merely to listen and obey.

Hank Hill wouldn’t have left a passenger in his truck at the bottom of a pond – but he wouldn’t have been heading to the beach with a gal pal for a personal pork barrel project in the first place. If your daughter’s car broke down on the side of the road at night, you’d pray for one of the Hank Hills of this country to be the one to pull up beside her.

ACORN TO SUE OVER THE "SMEARS" THAT CONSIST OF THEIR OWN ACTIONS...

....continuously videotaped. They are suing the investigative journalists who taped them helping to set up a brothel for 13 year old girls to work in, and believe it or not, suing Fox, who had nothing whatsoever to do with the taping. Wonder why they left out Glenn Beck?

An international entertainment conglomerate, disguising itself as a “news” agency (Fox), has expended millions, if not tens of millions of dollars, in their attempt to destroy the largest community organization of Black, Latino, poor and working class people in the country. It is not coincidence that the most recent attacks have been launched just when health care reform is gaining traction. It is clear they’ve had these tapes for months. We are their Willy Horton for 2009. We are the boogeyman for the right-wing and its echo chambers. If ACORN did not exist, the right-wing would have needed to create us in order to achieve their agenda, their missions, their ideal, retrograde America. This recent scam, which was attempted in San Diego, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Philadelphia to name a few places, had failed for months before the results we’ve all recently seen. I am appalled and angry; I cannot and I will not defend the actions of the workers depicted in the video, who have since been terminated. But it is clear that the videos are doctored, edited, and in no way the result of the fabricated story being portrayed by conservative activist “filmmaker” O’Keefe and his partner in crime. And, in fact, a crime it was – our lawyers believe a felony – and we will be taking legal action against Fox and their co-conspirators. (Big Government)

MSM IGNORES ONE OF THE LARGEST PROTESTS IN AMERICAN HISTORY

Well, that's not quite fair. Dinky stories were buried and some TV gave little blurbs. One from the NYTimes by Maureen Dowd is about how all those people are racists. So did CNN. The left is starting to become a ridiculous cartoon stuck in a loop. They have nothing, so they keep up with the same name calling completely disconnected from any reality. And they think people are stupid enough that this will be effective. Garsh. Why does their circulation and rating continue to plummet? Mystery to me.

And amazingly, the left is calling the pics of the event "faked." As Michelle Malkin points out

Flags were still at half-mast earlier today in honor of the murder victims of the 9/11 jihadi attacks.

Guess that was faked too. The numbers are not yet firm. Allahpundit:

I’ve seen numbers ranging from 50,000 on the low end (from David Shuster, natch) up to “a healthy six figures” from Reason’s Matt Welch on up to the two million figure cited by the boss earlier this morning, which ABC insists it never reported. As of a few hours ago, D.C. police were refusing to make any estimates but ABC got some unspecified city officials on the record claiming there 60,000 to 75,000 people there.

The Daily Mail in England is reporting up to 2 million.

Write the editor of that biased local newspaper. Ask them why they are not covering important stories, omitting important details, blatantly taking sides. Let them know you count.

Call the networks. They are bound to be distorting the event in DC today. Call them and call them out! Tell them you find their coverage offensive.

Support Glenn Beck. Beck kicks some major booty this week, Van Jones, NEA and ACORN all got major blows this week. So if you want to see more, go to supportglennbeck.com and fight the Color of Change’s boycott.

Join a social network. The Internet is ablaze with social networks for patriots. From the 9-12 Project to Team Sarah there is a social network for you. You can even find groups on Facebook, MySpace and Twitter. Social networks are excellent places to stay informed, spread the word or just organized.

Send a copy of the Constitution to your political party. If you get any of those fund raising letters, mail back a copy of the Constitution. Tell them when you see them working for America again you will be happy to donate.

Write a letter of thanks to Congress Members who actually follow the Constitution and look out for America first. These people need our encouragement.

...the Bush administration bears ample blame for fueling the ACORN housing/mortgage counseling racket. The GOP increased funding for left-wing-operated housing counseling programs by 150 percent since taking office in 2001.

I respect and admire George Bush for keeping us safe for 8 years, it is, after all, a presidents primary responsibility. But that he and other Republicans would increase funding for this criminal enterprise is outrageous. That he would say that we have to "abandon free market principles to save them" with the first bail-out, is outrageous.

Until the Republican party becomes republican again, I can't support them. I'll only support conservatives, not corrupt, self-serving political hacks who are in it only for themselves. I don't care if they talk a good game, I want to see the walk.

“we have to get to the point where we can have a conversation about big, important issues that matter to the American people without vitriol, without name-calling without the assumption of the worst in other people’s motives.”

Translation: I rule omnipotently. I can say and do whatever I want.

9/11 - THE DAY THE LEFT WANTS YOU TO FORGET

I wrote last year about the big sign in the local mall that says “Never Forget.” I know what they meant by that. They want us to remember the terror. They want us to stay ever-vigilant, because that could happen again. They want us to remember who our enemies are. They want us to remember the fire, the smoke, the downed plane, the falling bodies.

And yet what have we seen from our elected leaders? We are no longer allowed to say "the war on terror" Terrorist attacks have been re-labeled "human-caused disasters." Our president has been busy crawling around the world apologizing for our greatness and signaling weakness to those who want to destroy us. The CIA has become the enemy and the detained terrorists the mis-understood freedom fighters. CIA officials face prosecution. Terrorists are freed. And to top it off, 9-11 has been re-branded as a "national day of service" to help scrub that in-convenient memory and cognizance of the reality of the world from our minds.

A millionaire businessman is facing jail for attacking a career criminal who had held his family hostage at knifepoint.

Munir Hussain, 52, was told he would be killed when three raiders invaded his home.

He and his wife, their teenage daughter and two sons were ordered to lie on the floor of the living room with their hands behind their backs.

He escaped and beat them back, including a Mr. Salem, whose skull he fractured. So of course...

...a jury at Reading Crown Court found him guilty of inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent.

What's more,

legal sources said Mr Salem would be eligible for criminal injury compensation - with a fractured skull worth around £6,000 - even though he recovered to commit further crimes.

The court heard that Salem, from Borehamwood, had a long criminal record, with over 50 convictions. (Daily Mail)

Senior executive Tim Nicholson claimed he was unfairly dismissed by a property investment company because his views on the environment conflicted with other managers' "contempt for the need to cut carbon emissions".

In the first case of its kind, an employment tribunal decided that Nicholson, 41, had views amounting to a "philosophical belief in climate change", allowing him the same legal protection against discrimination as religious beliefs. (The Guardian)

Our objections to the Democrats’ health care proposals are not mere “bickering” or “games.” They are not an attempt to “score short term political points.” And it’s hard to listen to the President lecture us not to use “scare tactics” when in the next breath he says that “more will die” if his proposals do not pass.

In his speech the President directly responded to concerns I’ve raised about unelected bureaucrats being given power to make decisions affecting life or death health care matters. He called these concerns “bogus,” “irresponsible,” and “a lie” -- so much for civility. After all the name-calling, though, what he did not do is respond to the arguments we’ve made, arguments even some of his own supporters have agreed have merit.

In fact, after promising to “make sure that no government bureaucrat .... gets between you and the health care you need,” the President repeated his call for an Independent Medicare Advisory Council -- an unelected, largely unaccountable group of bureaucrats charged with containing Medicare costs. He did not disavow his own statement that such a group, working outside of “normal political channels,” should guide decisions regarding that “huge driver of cost ... the chronically ill and those toward the end of their lives....” He did not disavow the statements of his health care advisor, Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, and continuing to pay his salary with taxpayer dollars proves a commitment to his beliefs. The President can keep making unsupported assertions, but until he directly responds to the arguments I’ve made, I’m going to call him out too.

...Finally, President Obama delivered an offhand applause line tonight about the cost of the War on Terror. As we approach the anniversary of the September 11th attacks and honor those who died that day and those who have died since in the War on Terror, in order to secure our freedoms, we need to remember their sacrifices and not demonize them as having had too high a price tag.

Remember, Mr. President, elected officials work for the people. Forcing a conclusion in order to claim a “victory” is not healthy for our country. We hear you say government isn’t always the answer; now hear us -- that’s what we’ve been saying all along.

Yes, I am fed up. I had dinner with some friends the other night and noticed an Obama "Hope" pic by the register. I mentioned I would never eat there again, and some in the crowd thought this was going a little far.

I explained that this has gone WAY beyond difference of opinion, Democrat vs. Republican. This is a WAR for the our survival as a nation. Not with guns, but a war none the less. The alternative paths have not been so stark and clear since 1776.
